Is hiring a gigolo legal in the Netherlands? A clear answer for women and couples
Yes. Between consenting adults, hiring a gigolo or male escort in the Netherlands is legal.
You are not committing a crime by paying for reserved time, company or intimacy with an adult who agrees to the meeting. Sex work has been a recognised, regulated profession here since 2000. Paying for it is not hidden in a grey zone.
I know that sentence is the one most visitors search for. Women write to me from the United Kingdom, the United States, India, South Africa, Morocco, Turkey and a long list of other countries, often from a hotel room on the first evening of a trip, wanting to know two things at once: is this allowed — and is this man who he says he is.
The law answers the first question. The second one takes more care. Legal does not automatically mean safe, honest or kind. I would rather you close this tab than book the wrong person because a website used the word “legal” as a shortcut.
About Milan
I have worked independently as a gigolo and male escort since 2023, for adult women and couples in the Netherlands. I am an entrepreneur, not a desk at an agency. I speak fluent English and Dutch. I am not a lawyer. What I can tell you is how the law looks from inside this work, and what I have learned after more than three years of meetings with women who arrived nervous, curious, practical or all three. The short legal picture
The Dutch government puts it plainly: prostitution is legal when it involves sex between consenting adults.
In 2000 the Netherlands lifted the general ban on brothels. Sex work became a legal profession under conditions. Brothels, window businesses and escort agencies can operate with a municipal licence. An independent male escort usually works differently: he travels to a hotel or a private address that you choose.
The words gigolo and male escort overlap in everyday use. The law does not care which one you typed into a search bar. It cares about age, consent and whether anyone is being forced.
Legal
Paying an adult gigolo or male escort for agreed time, company and optional intimacy.
Not a crime for you
Booking as a visiting woman or as a couple, in English, at a hotel you have already checked into.
Illegal
Anyone under 18, coercion, trafficking, or running a sex business without a required licence.
What is legal for you as a client
These arrangements are generally permitted:
- Messaging an independent male escort and agreeing a time, place and rate.
- Meeting in a hotel, at a private address, or for dinner first.
- Paying in cash or by an agreed transfer for the reserved time.
- Booking as a woman on your own, or as a couple.
- Deciding that the evening will not include sex.
- Using a first name or an alias in the first messages.
- Visiting from another country and booking while you are here.
You do not need a Dutch permit to hire someone. You do not need to register. You do not need to explain the booking to a hotel desk. The law looks at consent and age. It does not require you to announce the purpose of a private adult meeting.
What is not legal
Three lines are bright. Crossing them is a crime, not a technicality.
- Underage. Sex work is not legal with anyone under 18. Paying a 16- or 17-year-old is a criminal offence for the client. I will not meet anyone under 21.
- Coercion and trafficking. The man has to be there by choice. Force, a hidden third party, or any sign that he cannot say no makes the meeting illegal. Leave.
- An unlicensed sex business where a licence is required. That rule is aimed at operators of brothels and agencies, not at a woman who messages one independent man once.
Street solicitation is restricted or banned in most Dutch cities. That is a different market from a pre-arranged hotel visit with a gigolo or male escort.
Age: 18 in the law, 21 in practice here
As of September 2026, the national legal minimum remains 18, although the government has announced plans to raise it to 21. Business.gov.nl still describes sex work as permitted from 18, while many municipalities — including Amsterdam, Rotterdam and The Hague — already require 21 for work in licensed sex businesses. In May 2026 the cabinet said it wants that 21-year line to become the national rule, and Government.nl also notes the aim of making it an offence to hire a sex worker younger than 21.
Those plans are policy in motion, not the current nationwide statute. They are not a reason to treat 18 as a target. My own rule is older than the cabinet letter: women and couples, 21 or older. No exceptions by message, by hotel, or by “almost 21”.
If a site or a man offers to be flexible on age, treat that as a reason to leave. An honest male escort is not afraid of a clear line.
Is it legal if you are only visiting?
Yes. Tourists, business travellers and other visitors may hire a male escort in the Netherlands under the same adult-consent rules as residents. Fluent English is enough. You do not have to live here. You do not have to book through an agency.
Over the last three years I have sat in hotel rooms and quiet restaurants with women who flew in from India and from Manchester, from Johannesburg and from New York, from Casablanca and from Istanbul, and from cities I will not list because discretion is part of the work. The passport does not change the law. The meeting is still two adults agreeing a time and a rate.
The usual visitor booking looks like this:
- You book the hotel room in your own name and check in first.
- You send a short message: city, hotel area, day, duration, alone or as a couple.
- We agree the rate before anyone travels.
- You give the room number only after you are inside.
- I arrive on time and leave without a claim on tomorrow.
If you want the booking steps rather than the legal ones, start on the English male escort in the Netherlands page or hire a male escort in Amsterdam.
Is it legal to receive a gigolo or male escort in your hotel room?
Yes. Receiving a gigolo or male escort in a hotel room you have already booked is legal in the Netherlands, as long as both people are consenting adults. A private visit is not street prostitution and it is not an unlicensed sex business. The law does not ask you to announce the purpose of the meeting at reception.
You do not have to register me at the desk. You do not have to invent a story for security. You do not have to wait in the lobby. Book the room in your name, check in as you normally would, and send the room number once you are upstairs.
I promise you do not need to worry about this part. After more than three years I know almost every hotel chain women use in the Netherlands. I will find my way to your room. I arrive as a guest or as a friend from the Netherlands — not as a gigolo. Reception, security and the walk from the foyer are my side of the evening.
A private home or dinner first is also allowed, if that suits you better. I do not work from a shop, a window or a club. You write to the same man you meet.
Independent gigolo or agency — the law is the same for you
From the client’s side, the legal question does not change if you book an independent gigolo or an agency roster. What changes is the layer between you and the door.
- An agency is a sex business. In many cities it needs a municipal licence.
- An independent male escort works without that desk. You message him directly.
- Your obligation stays the same: adult, consenting, voluntary.
I work independently because I am an entrepreneur, not because it sounds nicer in a headline. No dispatcher. No commission folded into the hour. The rate on the page is the rate for the time.
Agencies in the Netherlands often quote €200–€400 per hour before travel. My rates for women and couples are all-inclusive: €120 for one hour, €200 for two hours, €300–€400 for three to four hours, €600 overnight. Details sit on the male escort rates for visitors page.
Sex is legal. Sex is not required
This is the sentence many women need in the same paragraph as the law.
The Netherlands allows paid intimacy between adults. It does not require the evening to become that. You can hire a gigolo for conversation, dinner, closeness or a boyfriend experience and stop there. You can change your mind after I arrive. Stopping is not a breach of some hidden contract. You paid for reserved time and attention.
If a man treats “legal” as “therefore sex will happen”, he is not reading the same law you are. He is skipping consent.
Please choose your male escort carefully
I want this section to be uncomfortable in the right way.
The fact that hiring a gigolo is legal in the Netherlands does not mean every profile you find is honest. In more than three years I have heard the same stories from women who wrote to me after a bad first attempt elsewhere: photos that were ten years old, a deposit that vanished, a man who arrived and immediately pushed past the agreed pace, a “agency” that was one prepaid number and a rented face.
You do not owe anyone the benefit of the doubt when you are paying for private time in a hotel. Look for dull, specific proof.
- Recent photos that match a public review profile, not a collage from 2019.
- Reviews the escort did not write himself. Mine sit on reviews and recommendations and on my public Kinky profile, currently 4.8 out of 5.
- A real name or working name used consistently, and a voice that stays the same from the first message to the door.
- A clear rate before anyone travels. No “we’ll see when I get there”.
- No pressure for a large deposit to a stranger, gift cards, crypto or a rushed same-hour transfer.
- A man who can hear the word no without sulking or bargaining.
- Someone willing to do a short video call if the photos are not enough.
- An adult who states 21+ and means it.
Legal is the floor, not the recommendation
A meeting can be lawful and still be careless. Ask who you are writing to. Read what women actually wrote afterwards. If something in the first messages feels slippery, trust that. There will be another evening. There does not have to be this man.
How I do this work
I started in 2023. I work for women and couples aged 21 and over, throughout the Netherlands. I speak fluent English because a large part of the diary is international: a business trip, a weekend in Amsterdam, a woman who does not want to negotiate intimacy in a language that is not hers.
I am an independent entrepreneur. That sounds dry. It means I run the calendar, the rates, the travel and the conversations myself. It also means the person on WhatsApp is the person at the door.
The hours I reserve for you are not a rehearsal for a relationship. There is a beginning and an end. That boundary protects you as much as it protects me. You still set the pace.
On 2 April 2026 I was invited by De Telegraaf — the largest newsroom in the Netherlands — to record a podcast about this work. I said yes because I would rather the story come from the man women actually meet than from a rumour about gigolos. You can listen here: Milan on the Telegraaf podcast, 2 April 2026.
- Women and couples only, 21+.
- Direct contact in English or Dutch — WhatsApp, email or Telegram.
- Clear rate before anyone travels.
- No standard travel fee inside a reasonable radius in the Netherlands.
- No surcharge for a couple, for agreed kink, or for a first-time booking.
- Protection is standard.
- I arrive on time, walk through reception as a guest or a friend, and I do not contact you afterwards unless you write first.

What it costs, if the legal question was the last one
| Duration | Rate | Usually chosen when |
|---|---|---|
| 1 hour | €120 | A short first meeting, while the decision still feels large |
| 2 hours | €200 | The booking most women and couples choose |
| 3–4 hours | €300–€400 | Dinner and an evening without a clock |
| Hotel overnight | €600 | Evening through to morning |
All-inclusive for the time. No agency desk. No couple supplement. Always check the current rates page.
If you are comparing this to home
Readers from the UK, the United States, Germany, Italy, France, Scandinavia, India, South Africa, Morocco and Turkey often arrive here because the rule at home is different. In some countries paying for sex is a crime for the client. In others the work is legal but the advertising is not.
In the Netherlands the meeting itself — two adults, agreed time, agreed money — is allowed. That is why a hotel in Amsterdam or Rotterdam is a simpler place to do this than a hotel in a country that criminalises the buyer.
Legal in the Netherlands does not mean legal the moment you fly home and talk about it. It means the booking you make while you are here sits inside Dutch law.
A personal note
If you found this page because you needed permission from the state before you could even think about the rest, I understand that. The law here is unusually clear. Use that clarity. Do not let it make you careless.
An honest gigolo or male escort can tell you what the hours include, what they cost, and what happens if you want to stop. He can live with the fact that you might only be reading. He does not need you to decide in the same message.
If you write, a city, a day and whether you are coming alone is enough. A first name is enough. Fluent English is enough.
Warm regards,
Milan

Questions women ask before they close the tab
Is hiring a gigolo legal in the Netherlands?
Yes, between consenting adults. Paying a gigolo or male escort for time, company and optional intimacy is not a crime for the client.
Is a male escort the same as a gigolo in the law?
In everyday use the words overlap. The law cares about adult consent, not about which label you searched for.
Do I have to have sex if I hire a male escort?
No. Company, dinner, a walk or lying close can be the whole booking. You keep the pace.
Is it legal for a tourist?
Yes. Visitors may book while they are in the Netherlands. I work in fluent English from the first message to goodbye.
Is it legal to receive a male escort in my hotel room?
Yes. A pre-arranged visit between consenting adults in a room you have booked is legal. You do not have to register him at reception or explain the meeting to the desk.
Do I need to tell reception or security?
No. Milan knows most hotel chains used in the Netherlands and finds the room himself. He arrives as a guest or a friend, not as a gigolo. You do not need to wait downstairs or invent a cover story.
What is the minimum age?
As of September 2026 the national legal minimum remains 18, although the government has announced plans to raise it to 21. Many cities already use 21 for licensed businesses. I work from 21. I will not meet anyone younger.
Is it legal if I am married?
Criminal law does not ask about your marriage. Discretion is a working rule. What you tell a partner is your decision.
How do I know a male escort is honest?
Look for recent photos, independent reviews, a clear rate, no strange deposit, a matching voice on a video call, and a man who accepts a no. Read Milan’s reviews and recommendations before you decide anything.
Does Milan speak English?
Yes. Booking, the meeting and any follow-up can stay in fluent English. That is how most international clients prefer it.
Was Milan really on national media?
Yes. On 2 April 2026 De Telegraaf invited him to record a podcast about working as a gigolo. The episode is public.
What does an appointment cost?
Currently €120 for 1 hour, €200 for 2 hours, €300–€400 for 3–4 hours and €600 overnight, all-inclusive for the time. See the rates page.
From what age can I get in touch?
Women and couples aged 21 or older.
Is this page legal advice?
No. It is a plain-language explanation for readers of this site. For a formal position, use government pages or a lawyer.

Do you only want to ask first?
You do not need a plan. Write that you read this page about the law, the city you are in, and whether you are coming alone. A simple question is enough. A message is not a booking.
